To cater for the large numbers of children who registered at Boyle Celtic’s recent registration nights, we are asking for more volunteers to help out at all age groups. Volunteers are especially required for the u10 boys, u14 & u16 girls and u16 boys.

GATEWAYS LAUNCH IN KING HOUSE
An exhibition titled ‘Gateways’ by Fiona McDonald will launch in King House, Boyle on Saturday September 1st. As construction of the new visual art space at the Roscommon Arts Centre continues, Gateways is one of a series of offsite projects presented across the county.
Following a series of visits to sites in the Boyle region, artist Fiona McDonald has produced a series of works exploring live networks and the idea of making these communication/data systems more visible. The launch takes place on September 1st from 3pm where the artist Fiona McDonald will be in conversation with curator Linda Shevlin. It runs until September 27th

COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME 2018
The Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) - Men’s Sheds offers funding to Men’s Sheds who are currently affiliated with the Irish Men’s Sheds Association. The Department of Rural and Community Development provide the funding which will be administered through Roscommon LCDC and the Community and Enterprise section of Roscommon County Council. There is €1,449 funding available per Men’s Shed in the County and funding will be allocated equally to all Men’s Sheds in the county that submit a valid application. Eligible Projects are small scale capital projects only for example, office equipment, project resources, building upgrades, energy efficiency equipment, safety equipment etc. Approval of successful projects will take place in September and all monies must be claimed with receipts no later than November 30th 2018. Full details of the scheme and application form is available on www.roscommoncoco.ie or by contacting the Community and Enterprise Section of Roscommon County Council on 09066 37235 or via email bcoyle@roscommoncoco.ie Closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 31st August, 2018. BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
It has been a great few weeks for the younger golfers of the club with Lewis Shaw winning the Strokeplay competition held on Sunday the 12th August with a great score of 62 nett, followed this week by Ciaran Beirne who had his first big win in the club on Sunday the 19th August, claiming the James Shivnan Memorial Cup with an unbeatable 44 points with yet another young golfer, Cillian Doyle, taking second place with 42 points. Well done to all three, who will surely be hard to overlook for places on interclub teams in 2019 if they continue to bring in such strong scores. Other prizes in the James Shivnan Memorial competition went to Charlie O'Donnell who took the prize for best gross score and Tom Kearney who came 3rd , continuing a recent run of form, as he was also the winner of the 12 hole Stableford competition held on Thursday the 16th August with 28 points, beating Michael Simon and Lorcan Egan in to 2nd and 3rd respectively, all 3 having 28 points and separated only on "countback". We were gratified to note a strong turnout for the competition in memory of James Shivnan and we wish to thank all those friends of James who travelled from other clubs to take part.

BOYLE MEN’S SHED
Boyle Men’s Shed is about to reopen after being closed for six months. The group was based in the town for several years, with up to 35 local people working together making items such as park benches and bird-boxes. There has been some concern in north Roscommon recently that it’s been closed for so long, but manager Tony Byrne says it will reopen shortly.

The annual Pete Walsh Lough Key Boat Regatta will take place on Saturday August 25th.

KIDS TRAVEL FREE ON LOCAL LINK BUS
The popular Local Link bus service to and from Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park is now in full operation for the summer season. This July kids travel free on the service. The bus will run through to 31st October 2018.The Lough Key Forest Park Service links visitors to the Park seven days per week, providing four return scheduled services daily. It also serves Boyle Marina. The Local Link Bus departs from Boyle at King House to Lough Key Forest Park at 11:00, 14:30. 18:30 and 21:45. The Bus departs from Lough Key at 11:30, 15:00 and 19:00

BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
A fundraiser competition for the club was played over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The winning team was that of Ross Andrew, Tommy King and Eamonn Perry with a fine score of 102 points, just pipping the second placed team on countback. In second were Pat Conroy, Michael Rush and Tom Kearney. Michael and Tom also featured on the third placed team in their their other appearance in the competition, this time accompanied by Sean McLoughlin. Countback was a popular method of deciding competitions in the club in the last while with the the three top scorers in the Mens 12 Hole Stableford held on Thursday the 9th all having 27 points. The winner was Paul Connolly, beating Owen Garvin and Michael Simon in to 2nd and 3rd respectively. Well done to the men's Connacht Shield team who beat neighbours Ballaghaderreen in a closely fought first round match. Credit is especially due to Patrick Egan and Terry Canning who secured the all important away win in Ballaghaderreen. The team is captained by Lorcan Egan and they now face Ballina in the second round. The club's Foursome Matchplay competition concluded during the week. Congratulations to Vincent Egan and Tom Kearney who edged out Patrick Egan and Padraig O'Connell in the final.

NEW ‘DISCOVER BOYLE’ DISCOUNT BOOK
The ‘Discover Boyle’ Voucher Booklet is currently being distributed in various tourist locations in the area. Funded jointly by Boyle Town Team and Boyle Chamber of Commerce, the booklet features discounts in 30 businesses in the town. The pocket size 64-page booklet also features a map of Boyle and includes perforated vouchers. 5000 of the high quality publication will be distributed in Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, Local Link Bus, Shannon boat and cruise outlets and various tourism providers to encourage visitors and new customers to come and support businesses in Boyle. Participants are requested to keep a record of vouchers presented as this information will be collected by Una Bhan Tourism to compile a final report on the initiative at the end of the tourism season.

GRANT FOR ‘BOYLE COMMUNITY GARDEN’
Funding of €2000 has been warmly received by Boyle Family Resource Centre.
It comes from the Applegreen Blossom Fund which is a partnership between the Irish Youth Foundation and Applegreen. It is proposed to use the money towards the “Boyle Community Garden” at the Centre which will incorporate a polytunnel that will be maintained and used by the community. The project will help with the psychical and mental well-being of those who have direct access to the garden, especially those experiencing food poverty. Boyle Family Resource Centre is one of 63 community and voluntary youth projects across Ireland which were chosen from over 300 applicants to receive a total of €124,000 form the Applegreen Blossom Fund.

SMART START PRE-SCHOOL OPEN DAY
Smart Start Pre-school, Aughnagrange, Boyle will hold their Open Day on Saturday 18th August 2018. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the open day from 10am until 12pm, where they will get to view the pre-school and get a taste pre-school life!  Opening this September, and parents will be able to get a registration form at the Open Day.
All staff will be qualified to the highest standard, and are highly experienced. We are l
looking forward to seeing everyone on the day.

PLANNING FOR HERITAGE WEEK IN BOYLE
A number of events and are planned for Heritage Week in Boyle including: A Sacred Island before Christianity – Ardcarne Church of Ireland (August 22nd). Mighty Moths – King House (August 23rd). Family Nature Walk – King House (August 23rd). King’s Trail Bus Tour – Grounds King House (August 18th and 25th). ‘Gathering’ – King House (August 18th to 25th). ‘Dig It’ Archaeology for Children – Lough Key Forest Park (25th August). National Heritage Week 2018 will take place between the 18th and 26th August. Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage week is Ireland’s most popular cultural event and this year over 450,000 people are expected to participate in over 2,000 heritage events around the country. Over thirty community groups, organisations and individuals have organised more than fifty events around County Roscommon to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage that is there for us all to enjoy. Events range from lectures, launches, nature walks, visits to historic houses and gardens, music, poetry and song to family fun events. Many of the events are free and highlight the abundance of great work that is carried out in communities all around County Roscommon including Boyle to care for and promote our built, natural and cultural heritage.

FREE CUT FLOWER EVENT
Ardcarne Garden Centre, Boyle & Roscommon Town.  The Free Cut Flower Event will take place on Saturday 11th August at 11.30am until 12.30 pm. Discover the best flowers to grow at home to use for arrangements and how to create the perfect bunch for yourself or to give as a gift. Free Event – All welcome

JUNIOR GOLF IN BOYLE
Junior golf continues on Wednesday’s at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6pm.
All children 8 years of age or older and interested in learning the basics of the game are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

BOYLE SUMMER SHOW 2018
The Summer Show 2018 will be held again this year, at the Boyle GAA Training Grounds, located at The Warren on the Town. side of Drumderrig Nursing Home Sunday 12th August. The location is ideally situated close to the town, on level ground and sheltered from the elements. One of the biggest highlights this year is hosting “the All Ireland Champion Spaniel” competition for the 2nd time. The Dog Show will be under canvas, so come rain or shine, the dogs will look fantastic. Pony clubs from the region will also be competing for the best pony club accolade, showcasing their expertise in jumping, with all the popular attractions and competitions, over 40 stalls and fun for all the family.

SMART START PRE-SCHOOL OPEN DAY
Smart Start Pre-school, Aughnagrange, Boyle will hold their Open Day on Saturday 18th August 2018. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the open day from 10am until 12pm, where they will get to view the pre-school and get a taste pre-school life!  Opening this September, and parents will be able to get a registration form at the Open Day.
All staff will be qualified to the highest standard, and are highly experienced. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the day.

PLANNING FOR HERITAGE WEEK IN BOYLE
A number of events and are planned for Heritage Week in Boyle including: A Sacred Island before Christianity – Ardcarne Church of Ireland (August 22nd). Mighty Moths – King House (August 23rd). Family Nature Walk – King House (August 23rd). King’s Trail Bus Tour – Grounds King House (August 18th and 25th). ‘Gathering’ – King House (August 18th to 25th). ‘Dig It’ Archaeology for Children – Lough Key Forest Park (25th August). National Heritage Week 2018 will take place between the 18th and 26th August. Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage week is Ireland’s most popular cultural event and this year over 450,000 people are expected to participate in over 2,000 heritage events around the country. Over thirty community groups, organisations and individuals have organised more than fifty events around County Roscommon to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage that is there for us all to enjoy. Events range from lectures, launches, nature walks, visits to historic houses and gardens, music, poetry and song to family fun events. Many of the events are free and highlight the abundance of great work that is carried out in communities all around County Roscommon including Boyle to care for and promote our built, natural and cultural heritage.

Abbey Community College has announced opening dates as follows for the new school term:
Tuesday August 28th – 1st year school begins (9am – 1.30pm) Wednesday August 29th – 1st year school and start day for 3rd and 6th year Thursday August 3oth – School for all years except TY Friday August 31st – Meeting for 1st year parents Monday September 3rd – TY school year commences

HEALTH & WELLBEING CRAFT FAIR
A Health and Wellbeing Craft Fair will be held in Boyle in September. The Fair will take place in the Spool Factory Event Centre on Sunday September 9th from 11am to 6pm. The event is open to all complementary therapists, crafters, soap makers, crystals etc. If you are unsure if your craft is suitable please message Lucy below. CURLEW WALKERS CLUB
The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers will be Sunday 9th September meeting on Crescent, Boyle at 10 am and will leave for Leean and Doons. This will be Climb Grade B. KIDS TRAVEL FREE ON LOCAL LINK BUS
The popular Local Link bus service to and from Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park is now in full operation for the summer season. This July kids travel free on the service. The bus will run through to 31st October 2018.The Lough Key Forest Park Service links visitors to the Park seven days per week, providing four return scheduled services daily. It also serves Boyle Marina. The Local Link Bus departs from Boyle at King House to Lough Key Forest Park at 11:00, 14:30. 18:30 and 21:45.The Bus departs from Lough Key at 11:30, 15:00 and 19:00

BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
Captains Prize 2018 - Well done to Brendan Gaffney who was the winner of the Captains Prize for 2018. Padraig O'Connell made a valiant effort to thwart Brendan's attempt at a third Captains Prize, having been 3 shots behind him going into the 9-hole playoff and closing the gap to 1.5 shots, but it was not to be. Brendan was presented with his prize by the captain, Terry Canning, in a presentation in the clubhouse on Sunday night. It was great to see both a strong turnout on the day and a number of new faces playing in their first Captains Prize.
The other prize winners were as follows - Best Gross Score- Charlie O'Donnell , 3rd - Tom Kearney, 18 nett - Pat Conroy, Past Captain - Jim Mooney, Seniors Prize - Vincent Egan , Category 0-15 - Michael Simon, Category 16-20 - Kevin O'Connor, Category 21-28 - Tommy King, First Nine - Sean Heslin, Second Nine - Lewis Shaw, Third Nine - Michael Gilmartin, Student Prize - Cillian Doyle. Captains Prize To The Ladies - 1st - Mary O'Hara, 2nd - Susan O'Mahoney, Best Gross - Liz Dwyer, 3rd - Ruth Hogg.Mens Midweek Competition - The winner of the men's mid week competition on Thursday the 26th July  was the evergreen Ted Hester. Ted employed his wealth of golfing experience to bring in a fine score of 28 points and thus become the appreciative owner of a bottle of Hennessy.
