NEW ‘DISCOVER BOYLE’ DISCOUNT BOOK
The ‘Discover Boyle’ Voucher Booklet is currently being distributed in various tourist locations in the area. Funded jointly by Boyle Town Team and Boyle Chamber of Commerce, the booklet features discounts in 30 businesses in the town. The pocket size 64-page booklet also features a map of Boyle and includes perforated vouchers. 5000 of the high quality publication will be distributed in Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, Local Link Bus, Shannon boat and cruise outlets and various tourism providers to encourage visitors and new customers to come and support businesses in Boyle. Participants are requested to keep a record of vouchers presented as this information will be collected by Una Bhan Tourism to compile a final report on the initiative at the end of the tourism season.

GRANT FOR ‘BOYLE COMMUNITY GARDEN’
Funding of €2000 has been warmly received by Boyle Family Resource Centre.
It comes from the Applegreen Blossom Fund which is a partnership between the Irish Youth Foundation and Applegreen. It is proposed to use the money towards the “Boyle Community Garden” at the Centre which will incorporate a polytunnel that will be maintained and used by the community. The project will help with the psychical and mental well-being of those who have direct access to the garden, especially those experiencing food poverty. Boyle Family Resource Centre is one of 63 community and voluntary youth projects across Ireland which were chosen from over 300 applicants to receive a total of €124,000 form the Applegreen Blossom Fund.

SMART START PRE-SCHOOL OPEN DAY
Smart Start Pre-school, Aughnagrange, Boyle will hold their Open Day on Saturday 18th August 2018. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the open day from 10am until 12pm, where they will get to view the pre-school and get a taste pre-school life!  Opening this September, and parents will be able to get a registration form at the Open Day.
All staff will be qualified to the highest standard, and are highly experienced. We are l
looking forward to seeing everyone on the day.

PLANNING FOR HERITAGE WEEK IN BOYLE
A number of events and are planned for Heritage Week in Boyle including: A Sacred Island before Christianity – Ardcarne Church of Ireland (August 22nd). Mighty Moths – King House (August 23rd). Family Nature Walk – King House (August 23rd). King’s Trail Bus Tour – Grounds King House (August 18th and 25th). ‘Gathering’ – King House (August 18th to 25th). ‘Dig It’ Archaeology for Children – Lough Key Forest Park (25th August). National Heritage Week 2018 will take place between the 18th and 26th August. Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage week is Ireland’s most popular cultural event and this year over 450,000 people are expected to participate in over 2,000 heritage events around the country. Over thirty community groups, organisations and individuals have organised more than fifty events around County Roscommon to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage that is there for us all to enjoy. Events range from lectures, launches, nature walks, visits to historic houses and gardens, music, poetry and song to family fun events. Many of the events are free and highlight the abundance of great work that is carried out in communities all around County Roscommon including Boyle to care for and promote our built, natural and cultural heritage. 

PETE WALSH REGATTA ON LOUGH KEY
The annual Pete Walsh Lough Key Boat Regatta will take place on Saturday August 25th.
This year’s event will be in aid of SHOUT. All are welcome to join meeting in Lough Key at the harbour at 5:00pm. Anyone wishing to come aboard on the Trinity or any of the boats will be most welcome.

The popular Local Link bus service to and from Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park is now in full operation for the summer season. This July kids travel free on the service. The bus will run through to 31st October 2018.The Lough Key Forest Park Service links visitors to the Park seven days per week, providing four return scheduled services daily. It also serves Boyle Marina. The Local Link Bus departs from Boyle at King House to Lough Key Forest Park at 11:00, 14:30. 18:30 and 21:45. The Bus departs from Lough Key at 11:30, 15:00 and 19:00

JUNIOR GOLF IN BOYLE
Junior golf continues on Wednesday’s at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6pm.

BOYLE SUMMER SHOW 2018
The Summer Show 2018 will be held again this year, at the Boyle GAA Training Grounds, located at The Warren on the Town. side of Drumderrig Nursing Home Sunday 12th August. The location is ideally situated close to the town, on level ground and sheltered from the elements. One of the biggest highlights this year is hosting “the All Ireland Champion Spaniel” competition for the 2nd time. The Dog Show will be under canvas, so come rain or shine, the dogs will look fantastic. Pony clubs from the region will also be competing for the best pony club accolade, showcasing their expertise in jumping, with all the popular attractions and competitions, over 40 stalls and fun for all the family.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
Captains Prize 2018 - Well done to Brendan Gaffney who was the winner of the Captains Prize for 2018. Padraig O'Connell made a valiant effort to thwart Brendan's attempt at a third Captains Prize, having been 3 shots behind him going into the 9-hole playoff and closing the gap to 1.5 shots, but it was not to be. Brendan was presented with his prize by the captain, Terry Canning, in a presentation in the clubhouse on Sunday night. It was great to see both a strong turnout on the day and a number of new faces playing in their first Captains Prize.
The other prize winners were as follows - Best Gross Score- Charlie O'Donnell , 3rd - Tom Kearney, 18 nett - Pat Conroy, Past Captain - Jim Mooney, Seniors Prize - Vincent Egan , Category 0-15 - Michael Simon, Category 16-20 - Kevin O'Connor, Category 21-28 - Tommy King, First Nine - Sean Heslin, Second Nine - Lewis Shaw, Third Nine - Michael Gilmartin, Student Prize - Cillian Doyle. Captains Prize To The Ladies - 1st - Mary O'Hara, 2nd - Susan O'Mahoney, Best Gross - Liz Dwyer, 3rd - Ruth Hogg.Mens Midweek Competition - The winner of the men's mid week competition on Thursday the 26th July  was the evergreen Ted Hester. Ted employed his wealth of golfing experience to bring in a fine score of 28 points and thus become the appreciative owner of a bottle of Hennessy.

THE HOTEL PUBLIC ART PROJECT UNDERWAY
A new public art project titled “The Hotel” is currently underway. The project aims to capture conversations about the significant role the former Royal Hotel, Boyle played in the lives of the local people. It will investigate the importance of everyday practices of hospitality and welcoming others. The project organisers would appreciate any photographs or objects that may illustrate your story on the Royal Hotel. Conducted interviews will form part of an installation piece in response to this historic building. If you have a story to tell, interviews and meetings will take place on Tuesday July 24th and Wednesday July 25th from 11am – 5pm in Boyle during Arts Week. Showing the diverse and exciting styles and mediums of Art, Sculpture Submission. Exhibitions standard continually grows to attract entries from all over Ireland. The extremely popular and well attended Art Exhibition aims to provide a forum for artist to display their talent. The work is selected on merit and entries selected from part-time and full-time and occasional artists giving a unique blend and standard of excellence. Open night will be Thursday 19th July at 9pm and will open daily from 10am until 6pm until 27th July.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB FIXTURE
The biggest event of the year for the male golfers of the club is almost upon us with the Captains Prize for 2018 taking place on Sunday the 29th of July. The format will be an 18 hole Strokeplay earlier in the day, with the best scorers qualifying for a 9 hole play-off later that evening. It is the highlight of many peoples golfing year to "make the cut" and qualify for the play-off, but to win the Captain's Prize itself is considered a career highlight. This year’s captain is Tyrone exile and Tulsk resident, Terry Canning, who has been a loyal club member for several years, making his mark on several levels including as an inter-club player and captain, as a volunteer on works on the course and most recently as committee member and club captain. Online booking for this competition is essential.

POTTERY CAMP AT ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE
Hullabaloo Pottery Camp will take place this July in Ardcarne Garden Centre. The dates are 30th July until 2nd August from 10am until 1pm. Learn lots of different skills and techniques when you are painting and decorating your pottery. You will have your very own designer kiln-fired pot stand, mug, plate, bowl and piggy bank. ROCK THE CLOCK PLANNING CONTINUES
The organisers of August’s ‘Rock the Clock’ festival in Boyle have had to cancel the planned ‘Lip Sync Battle’ due to insufficient entries. Work is continuing weekly on organising a great line up for the much anticipated August bank Holiday weekend Festival. Among those performing will be The Legends who will play live outside The Moylurg from 9:30pm on Friday 3rd of August. The organisers would like to thank those who did sign up for the Lip Sync and “who knows, we might do it again later in the year”.

BOYLE TENNIS CLUB
Boyle Community Tennis are competing in the Connacht League Div.3. It has been many years since Boyle have played any competitive tennis and great to see the community club getting back into full swing!! Pictured are the Boyle Tennis Team who competed in Sligo Tennis Club recently. The next match is away to Manorhamilton with Boyle hosting a home match against Ballina in September.  Boyle Community Tennis are always looking for new players and offer membership at extremely reasonable rates. So if you played a long time ago or would like to learn and get some exercise in a fun environment please let us know. BOYLE ATHLETIC CLUB
At a well-attended meeting it was decided to form Boyle AC (Boyle Athletic Club) to cater for the growing number of people of all ages interested in the various athletic disciplines. It was decided the club follow established guidelines and seek approval from the county board as well as membership of the national governing body. Decisions were made on a working committee, club colours and a club logo.

ST JOSEPHS CHURCH CHOIR
The Choir will be performing as part of the Sunday morning mass on Sunday 22nd July at 11.30  Formed in 2016, the Choir sing on the fourth Sunday of each month at 11.30 mass and at other church ceremonies. The four part choir has over fifty members, a number of whom share the teaching and programming together with Choir Director Anne Kielty.

BAF WORKSHOP
Once again, an exciting range of children’s and adults workshops has been organised for Boyle Arts Festival which will run from July 19th to 28th. First up, a 5-day workshop for Children aged 5 to 8, ‘Fantastic Creatures’ with Kate Wilson. This workshop will run from July 23rd to 27th. Participants will create movement sequences, masks and costumes for performance exploring their own imagined beasts, as well as creating environments, nests and habitats etc in the space using natural materials and fabricating with paper and paint. This will include both individual and group work and there will be an informal sharing of the work on the last day. The Singskool Summer Camp is an extremely popular early childhood music programme, designed to put the FUN back into the fundamentals of music. Interactive classes will have your little one singing, playing instruments, conducting, composing, dancing and exploring early music literacy and performing. At the end of the week your mini stars will start in a show for family and friends. There are three Singskool workshops for different age groups, over five days. ‘Mini Melodies’ for ages 3 to 4, ‘Treble Makers Summer Beats’ for ages 5 to 8 and ‘Beat Buddy Babies’, a two-day workshop for children aged 6months to 3 years. BOYLE GOLF CLUB
The men’s' 12 hole stableford played on Thursday the 28th of June was won by Jonathan Egan,  with Michael Gilmartin and Padraig O'Connell coming in 2nd and 3rd. The "twos club" pool was split between Jonathan Egan and Michael Gilmartin. The results of the competitions played on the weekend 30th of June and the 1st of July will be published next week. The club owes a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who have been up at the course after dark night after night watering greens during the recent dry spell. THE HOTEL PUBLIC ART PROJECT UNDERWAY
A new public art project titled “The Hotel” is currently underway. The project aims to capture conversations about the significant role the former Royal Hotel, Boyle played in the lives of the local people. It will investigate the importance of everyday practices of hospitality and welcoming others. The project organisers would appreciate any photographs or objects that may illustrate your story on the Royal Hotel. Conducted interviews will form part of an installation piece in response to this historic building. If you have a story to tell, interviews and meetings will take place on Tuesday July 24th and Wednesday July 25th from 11am – 5pm in the Spool Factory in Boyle during Arts Week. At a well-attended meeting it was decided to form Boyle AC (Boyle Athletic Club) to cater for the growing number of people of all ages interested in the various athletic disciplines. It was decided the club follow established guidelines and seek approval from the county board as well as membership of the national governing body. Decisions were made on a working committee, club colours and a club logo.

BOYLE ARTS FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

The long awaited programmes of events for the Boyle Arts Festival are now available at Una Bhan Tourist Office in the grounds of King House, Boyle.

PADDY SHARKEY CUP FISHING POSTPONED

Boyle and District Angling Club wish to advise that the Paddy Sharkey Memorial Cup competition has been postponed. This is due to the current high water temperatures and has been postponed in the interest of fish preservation. The competition, which was due to take place on Sunday 15th July on Lough Gara, will now take place at a new date to be advised.

CURLEW WALKERS CLUB

BRAIN GYM IRELAND COURSE IN BOYLE

Switch on your whole brain and body at Brain Gym Ireland’s new course that will take place in Boyle this July. Brain Gym is a set of activities and procedures which are simple to use, fun and are reported to be highly effective in preparing people of all ages to learn, communicate, participate and set goals that they achieve easily. POTTERY CAMP AT ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE

Hullabaloo Pottery Camp will take place this July in Ardcarne Garden Centre. The dates are 30th July until 2nd August from 10am until 1pm. ROCK THE CLOCK PLANNING CONTINUES

The organisers of August’s ‘Rock the Clock’ festival in Boyle have had to cancel the planned ‘Lip Sync Battle’ due to insufficient entries. Work is continuing weekly on organising a great line up for the much anticipated August bank Holiday weekend Festival. Among those performing will be The Legends who will play live outside The Moylurg from 9:30pm on Friday 3rd of August. The organisers would like to thank those who did sign up for the Lip Sync and “who knows, we might do it again later in the year”.

BAF WORKSHOP

Once again, an exciting range of children’s and adults workshops has been organised for Boyle Arts Festival which will run from July 19th to 28th. First up, a 5-day workshop for Children aged 5 to 8, ‘Fantastic Creatures’ with Kate Wilson. This workshop will run from July 23rd to 27th. Participants will create movement sequences, masks and costumes for performance exploring their own imagined beasts, as well as creating environments, nests and habitats etc in the space using natural materials and fabricating with paper and paint. This will include both individual and group work and there will be an informal sharing of the work on the last day. The Singskool Summer Camp is an extremely popular early childhood music programme, designed to put the FUN back into the fundamentals of music. Interactive classes will have your little one singing, playing instruments, conducting, composing, dancing and exploring early music literacy and performing. At the end of the week your mini stars will start in a show for family and friends. There are three Singskool workshops for different age groups, over five days. ‘Mini Melodies’ for ages 3 to 4, ‘Treble Makers Summer Beats’ for ages 5 to 8 and ‘Beat Buddy Babies’, a two-day workshop for children aged 6months to 3 years. JUNIOR GOLF IN BOYLE

Junior golf continues on Wednesday’s at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6pm.
All children 8 years of age or older and interested in learning the basics of the game are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB

The mens 12 hole stableford played on Thursday the 28th of June was won by Jonathan Egan,  with Michael Gilmartin and Padraig O'Connell coming in 2nd and 3rd. The "twos club" pool was split between Jonathan Egan and Michael Gilmartin. The results of the competitions played on the weekend 30th of June and the 1st of July will be published next week. The club owes a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who have been up at the course after dark night after night watering greens during the recent dry spell. BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
Lorcan Egan was the winner of the men’s' midweek 12 hole stableford competition held on Thursday 21st June with a score of 26 points. Patrick Egan and Paul Connolly took 2nd and 3rd place with 24 and 22 points respectively. The 18 hole strokeplay competition that took place on Sunday the 24th June was sponsored by men’s' president Michael Simon's business Cleansave, for which the club extends its gratitude to Michael. This competition was won by Gerry O'Hara's fantastic 61 nett, which was a full 5 shots clear of second placed Seamus Gallagher's 66. Seamus edged out third placed Frank Casserley's 66 on countback and Niall Sweeney claimed the prize for best gross score. Open Week at Boyle Golf Club will run this year until Friday 6th July. Daily competitions for Ladies and Gents. The Ladies Gala Day will take place on Tuesday 3rd and will be an 18 hole S’Ford, also a Gents 9 hole S’Ford. Wednesday 4th July will be an 18-hole Scotch Mixed Foursome for both Ladies and Gents. Thursday 5th July see a Gents 18-hole Stroke and a Ladies 9 Hole S’Ford and finally on Friday 6th July will be a 3 Ball Scramble any combination 1/10 of combined handicap. To finish the Open Week Provisionally, are plans to host a presentation of prizes and barbeque night on that Friday and to catch up with some much overdue instalments of our monthly draw!

CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISING NIGHT
A fundraising night for the Irish Cancer Society will take place in the The Moylurg on July 6th. The event is in aid of Boyle man Paul Condon’s sponsored parachute jump which will take place on Sunday July 22nd. Limerick by birth but Boyle by nature, Paul has been 25 years in his adopted town and has raised over €25,000 to date for the Irish Cancer Society through a number of fundraising ventures.

This is a reminder to all artists, local, new, those from further afield, and those under 25, that it is time to be thinking of your entry to the 2018 Boyle Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition this year will run from 10am Friday 20th July until 4pm Saturday 28th July. We were delighted that last year’s exhibition was as well supported as previous years. We anticipate another excellent show for 2018, exhibits for which will be selected by an anonymous panel. Handing-in of entries will take place in the Church of Ireland Parochial School, Military Road, Boyle (opposite Family Life Centre) on Friday 6th July from 4pm To 6pm and Saturday 7th July from 4pm To 6pm. BRANDING LIKE A BOSS’ IN BOYLE
Network Roscommon are delighted to announce their main June event – ‘Branding like a Boss’ will be held in King House, Boyle on June 27th. Addressing the gathering will be Maria Hynes of Creative Edge Wedding Stationery and this year’s winner of Best New Emerging Business in the recent Businesswoman of the Year regional awards and Eadaoin Curtin of Firechild Photography, a Cavan native based in Dublin. Tickets are available via eventbrite. This event is free for members and €20 for non-members and an evening with esteemed speakers and a chance to network with professional women from the region.

BAF 2018 
There are almost fifty events to choose from in the ten-day calendar of art, music, drama, film, comedy, spoken word, children’s events, workshops and literature. The official Boyle Arts Festival programme for 2018 will be launched in a few weeks’ time and the Festival office will open its doors on Monday, July 9th. WEDNESDAY TENNIS EVENTS IN BOYLE
Adult tennis for fun will take place in Boyle Tennis Club on Wednesday mornings at 11am.
