Úna Bhán Tourism are delighted to be offering free computer training courses again, starting in March. This unique opportunity to develop digital skills and learn basic functions is for beginners or those eager to improve in a fun and easy way. The course includes how to set up an email account, send and receive emails / how to search the internet in a safe and secure way / Complete vehicle taxation online instead of paper form & how to set up and use online banking. More importantly for the farming community the training will teach how to register your farm on Agfood.ie, which allows you to Record the Birth of a Calf; Complete and Print Farm-to-Farm Movements & Print your Herd Profile for your Farm Accountant. Courses are limited to 10 people at a time and will be held in Boyle Library. The training programme is funded through the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) Please call Nigel on 071 966 3033 for more details or to register.

The all-weather Courtyard Market takes place every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm. It was the first time for Lough Key Forest & Activity Park to be at the The Irish Hospitality Awards and they are thrilled to have been awarded a ‘Highly Commended Recognition Winner’ in the large category of ‘Tourist Attraction of the Year’

VOLLEYBALL FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Students from Abbey Community College held a Volleyball match recently between Teachers and Leaving Certificate Students, they raised €450 for Cancer Research. Mr. Barry Greaney presented the cheque to Damian Regan organiser of Run Walk n Roll for Cancer Research. Well done to all. This brings the final total for Run Walk n Roll 2018 to €6480.61 Thank you all once again on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society.

THE ROS RUN 10K & HALF MARATHON
The organizers of The Ros Run were proud to host their 3rd annual event in the glistening spring sunshine, they couldn’t have asked for a better day. With over 500 participants taking on the 10k, Half Marathon or Full Marathon Distance. The routes gave participants the opportunity to see Roscommons beauty, the castle, the park, the forest, lakes and breath taking views on a spring morning. Congratulations to Boyle AC athletes who were on tour again and performed excellently contributing some fabulous finish times with some new PB’s.

FURNITURE UPCYCLING
A furniture upcycling course with Tom Finan will take place in the Boyle VEC, Marian Rd on Thursday evenings March 21st continuing on the following dates: 21st March, 28th March, 4th April, 11th April, 2nd May 9th May. There will be a two week break for Easter.

VILLAGE TIDY-UP
Calling all men, women and children of Ballinafad! Before the arrival of Confirmation Day in Ballinafad, please come and lend your support to a general tidy up around the Church in Ballinafad and in the Playground on Saturday, 6th April at 2pm. Grass needs cutting and strimming, moss needs sweeping, weeds need pulling and litter needs picking up. Many hands make light work so bring whatever tools will help and our church will look as good on the outside as it will on the inside! PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
Parent/toddler groups can be a great way of meeting other people with children the same age as yours in your area.  It is open to childminders, grandparents and other guardians. SafeTALK
SafeTALK ‘suicide alertness for everyone’ is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources.  These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Participants learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide in only a few house.  Following a SafeTALK workshop you will be more than willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide. Thursday May 16th in Boyle Family Resource Centre from 7pm-10pm.  Cost: FREE. Booking essential.

LAUNCH THE NEW EU PROJECT
Momentum [educate+innovate] invite you to the launch of Recognising Cultural Heritage Opportunities for Tourism (ROOTS), an Erasmus+ Project which enables small tourism enterprises to harness the potential of Cultural Heritage Tourism to successfully grow their businesses. Tourism SME's will learn innovative strategies to develop their operation, engage new target markets and compete on a global level. Boyle Athletic Club Fit For Life
The Fit for Life group meet on a Tuesday and Thursday night at 7:30pm. The group that started after Christmas ran their first full 5k last week. An employer information session to provide up to date information for employers on free recruitment service incentives, grants for employers and supports in the workplace will be held in the Spool Factory, Patrick Street, Boyle on Tuesday the 26th of March from 11am to 12 noon. Lough Key Forest Park in Awards Final
Boyle’s Lough Key Forest and Activity Park has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Irish Hospitality Awards 2019. It comes less than seven weeks after the facility won ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands Best Tourism Experience’ at the Irish Tourism Industry Awards. The Forest and Activity Park has been shortlisted in the ‘Tourist Attraction of the Year’ section and will have strong competition from the other finalists – The Irish Rock ‘n’ Roll Museum Experience, Malahide Castle and Gardens, The National Wax Museum Plus, Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Jeanie Johnston, Brú na Bóinne, Glenveagh National Park, Natural History Museum and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. The Arigna Mining Experience is also a finalist in the ‘Best Day Out’ section of the awards. The Irish Hospitality Awards celebrate those who provide residents and visitors with great experience and enhance the hospitality industry in Ireland. The ceremony will be held at The Crowne Plaza Dublin Airport, on Monday, March 25, where top contenders will gather together to find out the lucky winners.

FREE BIODIVERSITY TRAINING COURSE FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS
Roscommon Leader Partnership are offering an introduction to biodiversity training. The course is free and is open to all community and voluntary organisations across Co. Roscommon (e.g. Tidy Towns, Cemetery Committees, Conservation Groups, Environmental Groups, Town Teams, Residents Associations). There will be information about biodiversity, flora and fauna of the area. It will provide skills in habitat conservation and protection. Boyle GAA to host ‘I’m a Celebrity’ Excitement is building ahead of next year’s Boyle GAA organised ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ fundraiser. The event will take place on Saturday March 16th in St. Joseph’s Hall. 24 contestants will battle it out to see who is the ‘King or Queen of the Jungle’. The main sponsor of the night is LandEscape Pty Ltd, the Australian company run by Boyle man Padraig Sweeney. Based on the popular TV show, this event is unlike anything you have seen before! Contestants are fully dressed in their campsite costumes and compete alongside live snakes, reptiles and spiders surrounded by a jungle background.

FREE BIODIVERSITY TRAINING COURSE FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS
Roscommon Leader Partnership are offering an introduction to biodiversity training. The course is free and is open to all community and voluntary organisations across Co. Roscommon (e.g. Tidy Towns, Cemetery Committees, Conservation Groups, Environmental Groups, Town Teams, Residents Associations). There will be information about biodiversity, flora and fauna of the area. It will provide skills in habitat conservation and protection. Training will be held in a number of venues across the county, to be identified after the participating groups are selected. BOYLE GOLF CLUB
Congratulations to our captains Seamus Gallagher and Regina McLoughlin for getting the golfing year off to a successful start with the traditional “Drive In” which was held on Sunday the 24th of February. There was a great turnout to support our captains and to take part in the scramble competition that followed. The winning team on the day was that of Terry Canning, Susan O’Mahony and Willie Tiernan. 2nd place went to Karl Keenan, Mary O’Hara, Gerry O’Dowd and John Cryan and 3rd place to Lorcan Egan, Lionel Lynn and Conor Hamill. The 2 rounds of the club draw for January and February were held after the Drive In and the winners were as follows : January – 1st – Mary McKeon, 2nd Brendan and Susan Gaffney, 3rd Sean Heslin. February – 1st – Pat Conroy 2nd – Vincent and Moira Egan, 3rd – Denis and Mary O ‘Donnell. 1st prize is 70 euro, 2nd and 3rd get 40 euro apiece.
