Horsemanship Training Course 5M3371
Starting at
Boyle VTOS Centre in conjunction with Lough Gara Stables, Boyle, Co Roscommon
and Starting in September with some places left. • QQI Level 5 Qualification in
Horsemanship • This is a practical and academic course for those seeking a
career in the horse industry. It is designed and run in accordance with
international standards in order to attain the best equine and teaching
practice. The course will provide students with an excellent foundation in the
skills and practical experience required to gain employment in the equine
industry and prepare for examinations or to progress to higher education. •
Students will attend Boyle VTOS Centre for two days per week and three days a
week at Lough Gara Riding Stables. This is a two year course and is open to

Curlew Walkers Club
The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers club will take place on September
24th /25th and
will be a Open Walking Weekend with a climb/flat and grade A,B and C. Meeting

CULTURE NIGHT
An evening of
traditional music, poetry and print-making in the Boyle Branch Library taking
place from 6pm until 8pm on Friday 16th September, (refreshments
provided).
KING HOUSE CULTURE NIGHT
A solo piano
recital by Miceal O’Rourke with his “Journey into Night”.... a musical
exploration of the nocturnal world with its contrasting moods and colours in a selection
of works for piano by composers from Beethoven to the present day. Free tours
of King house from 11am until 6pm with the last tour at 5pm.
AUTISM TRAINING COURSE

Centre for Autism returning to King House, Boyle, offering parents of children
with Autism a 4 week Free Training Course starting Monday 19th September.

EXPERIENCE THE DANCE HALL ERA
Boyle will be
brought back to the Golden Age of Ireland’s iconic Dance Hall/Showband Era of
the 1950’s and 60’s on Saturday, September 24th, when this magical era will be lovingly
recreated for one night only. Music on the night will be performed by The Keith
McDonald Showband. Tickets are available through Úna Bhán Tourism located in

Roscommon Writing Award
First Prize
€500: The NEW ROSCOMMON WRITING AWARD 2016 is organised as part of the county’s
literature development programme. It is funded by Roscommon County Council and
The Arts Council, and supported by the Roscommon Herald and by Shannonside FM.
The winner will receive a monetary prize of €500 and will have their winning
entry printed in the Roscommon Herald. It will also be broadcast on Shannonside
FM. (Four runners-up will receive €50 each). Closing date for entries is 30
November 2016Boyle Traditional Singers Circle. Traditional unaccompanied singing, in English
and Irish takes place in Dodd’s Crescent Bar (back room), The Crescent, Boyle
the third Saturday of every month, all year around, 9.30pm onwards. All singers
and listeners welcome.
BOYLE GOLF CLUB
The King Cup was
held on Sunday 4th September. In first place was Paul Connolly (19)
with 43pts, in second was Tommy King (23) with 42pts, the gross was won by Gary
Carty (5) with 32 gross points, and in third was Eamon Perry (21) with 41pts
points.
Friday 2nd September saw the evening’s
scramble won by Gary Carty, Michael Reid and Tommy King with 3 under par. Joyce
Boles’ Lady President’s Prize was held on Sunday 28th August. The results of
the competition were as follows: 1st Tish Perry; 2nd Peggy Feely; Gross Liz
Dwyer; 3rd Mary O’Hara; Cat 0-19 Moira Egan; Cat 20-29 Claire Cryan; Cat 30-36
Marie Hanmore-Cawley; Past President Carmel McGarry; Best 36 Handicap Paula
Cull; Front 9 Susan O’Mahoney; Back 9 Sandra McCrann. The Lady President’s
Prize to men was also held on Sunday 28th August. The winner was Michael Reid
(15) with 39pts, in second was Cillian Doyle (14) with 38pts, the gross prize
went to Sean Heslin (9) with 77, and third was Jim Moonney (10) with 37pts. An
outing has been arranged to New Forest Golf Club on Saturday 24th September.
The cost is €40 for a round of golf and dinner. Please put your name on the
sheet provided on the noticeboard if you wish to go. Golfer of the Year a fifth
place finish in the King Cup for Seamus Gallagher was sufficient for him to
secure the title for 2016 with one event yet to be played. This caps off a
great golfing year for Seamus having won the club matchplay title – The King
Harmon Cup and the first major of the year – The Committee Cup. These results
along with other notable performances have ensured that Seamus takes the
accolade for this year. Well done Seamus!
COURTYARD MARKET
The Market is
open from 10am to 2pm each and every Saturday in the grounds of King House,
Boyle. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic
produce, then a trip to Boyle Courtyard Market on Saturday should be on your
agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, including organic fruit and
vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices,
gluten free/ sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are
available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters
selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear. So why not
come along and have a chat with the stall holders and avail of their ideas. For
