Curlieu Wheelers Cycling
club would like to thank the following for their help and assistance in raising
€9000 last weekend for Niamh’s Journey There: Management and staff of Londis
and Supervalu supermarkets, Garda Michael Pilkington and Superintendent Seamus
Boyle, David Greene, Darren Purcell, Abbey College TY students, Better Buys,
Carmels Skincare and Beauty, Ann Wynne Fitness, Brogan’s Pharmacy, Smith,
Kelly, Scott, Keith Conroy, Trailcyling, local media, all the bucket collectors
and the many guest cyclists from the club and the town who participated on
either or both days. The generosity of the community to the cycle has been
outstanding and the club wish Niamh well for the future.
Pop Up event in Park
Visitor Centre
INSIDE [CRAFT] invites you
to its Pop Up Retail Event on Culture Night 2017 at 4.00 pm on Friday 22
September in Lough Key Forest Park Visitor Centre, Boyle. This event,
introducing the new INSIDE [CRAFT] Network, will be an opportunity to meet
craftspeople, hear about what inspires them, see and purchase their work, in
the beautiful surroundings of Lough Key Forest Park The Pop Up Retail event
will continue on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th from 10am to 5pm each day. INSIDE
[CRAFT] is a strong, vibrant network representing the craftspeople, artists and
designers of Cavan, Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon.
Curlew
Walkers Club
All are welcome to join the
walks for an Open weekend which takes place on Saturday 23rd and
Sunday 24th September. Both days meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at
10am
The Saturday walk programme
will be, Level C. Castlebaldwin to Balinafad, route will follow the historical
trail over the Bricklieve Mountains, length 12km with 200m climb, time 3 to 4
hours. Level A.Castlebaldwin to Boyle, route will follow the historical trail
over the Bricklieve and Curlew Mountains, length 18km with 400m climb. Water
proof boots needed for the Curlews, time 6 hours approx. Sunday walks
programme: Level C. Arigna Mining Experience to Keadue, This route will follow
a steady climb up the slopes of Kilronan Mountain, yielding a fine view of
Lough Allen. The route takes us past the Mining Experience and continues
towards the top of Kilronan Mountain, then sweeping downwards into Keadue.
Length 7 km with 200m climb, 3 to 3.5 hours. Level A. Arigna Mining Experience to Lough Key. This route
will follow a steady climb up the slopes of Kilronan Mountain, yielding a fine
view of Lough Allen. The route takes us past the Mining Experience and
continues towards the top of Kilronan Mountain, then sweeping downwards into
Keadue. The route will then follow the historical trail past Lough Meelagh on
to the Bogside Inn and then on to Crossna. From Crossna we continue on the
Historical trail to Lough Key. Length 20km with 260m climb, time 6 hours

walking with the club must have the following basic items of equipment: Strong
waterproof boots, Waterproof clothing and a walking stick, Woollen hat and
gloves, adequate food and liquids, A whistle and a rucksack for all items.
Boyle Scout
registration night
Registration Night for all
New and Existing members will be held on Wednesday 20th September between 7.00
pm and 9.00 pm in the Scout Den. All Parents who wish to enrol a child for the
coming year must please register them on this night. The minimum age is
strictly 6 years old. Please note that while they are accepting registration of
New Members, places will be dependent both on returning member numbers and
Leader numbers and therefore cannot be immediately guaranteed. Weekly meetings
will resume where possible the following week, beginning Monday 25th September.
Due to a shortage of Leaders, some of our Sections will not be able to re-open,
as things stand. We are trying to address this situation, and appeal to anyone
that may be willing to help out, to please take that leap of faith and contact
us. Being a Leader can be hugely rewarding, many people even finding that they
enjoy it!! Full training will be provided, particular skills are not required. Anyone
who may be interested in becoming a Leader in any of the Sections would be most
welcome and can contact the Group Leader on 086 8360222 or any Leader for
further details.
SUMMER STARS ON CULTURE NIGHT
This year we are marking
Culture Night in Boyle Library with the awards ceremony for all those children
that have completed this year’s Summer Stars challenge. This will take place in
the Boyle Library on Friday 22nd September at 6.15pm and will be
followed at 6.30pm by the wonderful Chris Thompson providing a storytelling
session for 7 – 10 years old.
BOYLE & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB
Next Angling Competition
will be the Martin Mitchell Cup which will be taking place on Lough Key on
Sunday 24th September. Fishing from 11am until 6pm and this will be
a Boat Competition. Also taking place this month will be the Paddy Kelly Cup which
will take place on Lough Gara on Saturday 30th August from 10am
until 4pm.
Joint Policing public
meeting in Boyle
King House in Boyle will be
the venue for a Public Meeting of County Roscommon Joint Policing Committee. It
will take place on Thursday 28th September commencing at 7pm.
All members of the public
are invited to attend and put questions to the committee concerning policing in
the county. Questions should be received no later than Thursday 21st September
to Breta Coyle, Community and Enterprise, Aras an Chontae, Roscommon or to bcoyle@roscommoncoco.ie The Roscommon Joint Policing Committee (JPC) was
established under the Garda Síochána Act 2005 and is a partnership between the
Elected Members and Staff of Roscommon County Council, Oireachtas Members, An
Garda Síochána, and the Community. The Roscommon JPC is a forum where matters
that affect policing in the County can be discussed. Cllr Rachel Doherty is the
local public representative on the committee
Orienteering event in
Forest Park
Lough Key Forest Park will
again be a centre of action on Sunday September 24th when Sligo Orienteering
club will hold a score event in the Park. The day will commence at 11am. This
event has only one start time as it is a mass start event. Please do not come
late. Please arrive no later than 11.00am with a mass start to commence shortly
afterwards. Meet at the campsite entrance.
Parish Pastoral
council meeting
The Diocese is hosting the Pastoral Gathering again
this year in Boyle, and are assisting in its preparation. The Icon of the Holy
Family (World Meeting of Families) will be present for veneration at the
Gathering on Saturday 7th October and again in St Joseph’s Church on
the Sunday and Monday. St Joseph’s Church are working on a Celebration of
Baptism for those Baptised in the last year in October and have discussed
lighting the Church and its grounds.
RUN WALK n ROLL
This year’s Run Walk n Roll
in aid of Cancer Research will take place in Boyle on Sunday the 15th of
October. Due to the timing of the event it has being decided to give a
percentage of this year's fund to ‘Niamhs Journey There ' fund. Hopefully the
money (in excess of €160.000) raised in Boyle over the last 21 years will have
benefited many on their journey with Cancer and hopefully will benefit Niamh on
her difficult journey. Please like and share our page Run Walk N Roll to spread

Awards 2017

Boyle Food Partnership
Boyle
Food Partnership was established in July 2017, following the realisation that
some households are experiencing food shortages due to a lack of money. Food supplies are limited and available to
those most in need, those who are going without today … not to replenish a
cupboard for an unidentified rainy day. We look forward to serving you. If you
or anyone you know is going without food due to economic or other hardship,
please let them know we are up and running and ask them to get in touch. We

The
Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am
until 2pm...If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic
produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is
a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian hot meals to eat here or take home
as well as organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic
free range eggs,, sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes
are available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters
