ATTENTION FARMING COMMUNITY

Úna Bhán Tourism are delighted to be offering free computer training courses again, starting in March. This unique opportunity to develop digital skills and learn basic functions is for beginners or those eager to improve in a fun and easy way. The course includes how to set up an email account, send and receive emails / how to search the internet in a safe and secure way / Complete vehicle taxation online instead of paper form & how to set up and use online banking. More importantly for the farming community the training will teach how to register your farm on Agfood.ie, which allows you to Record the Birth of a Calf; Complete and Print Farm-to-Farm Movements & Print your Herd Profile for your Farm Accountant. Courses are limited to 10 people at a time and will be held in Boyle Library. BOYLE COURTYARD MARKET

The all-weather Courtyard Market takes place every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, including organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, gluten free/ sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear. BOYLE HOLIDAY GROUP WATERFORD TRIP

Boyle Holiday Group are planning a trip to Waterford this May. The group will visit Dungarvan, Waterford City and other places of interest in the South east Coast. The trip will take place from Monday 6th May to Friday 10th May. The group will be staying at the Park Hotel, Dungarvan. A furniture upcycling course with Tom Finan will take place in the Boyle VEC, Marian Rd on Thursday evening 11th April, followed by the 2nd May and 9th May as there will be a two week break for Easter. CLOTHING BANK FOR YOUR SPRING CLEAR OUT

There is a clothing bank outside Boyle Family Resource Centre which accepts old clothes and bed linen, handbags, and shoes that are sent for recycling. Your support and donations are very much appreciated as this helps raise funds towards the Centres programmes and community work. NO DUVETS AND PILLOWS AS THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY THE RECYCLING COMPANY. Thank you.

ROSCOMMON SUICIDE BEREAVEMENT LIAISON SERVICE

Roscommon Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service is a free & confidential service that provides assistance & support to families & individuals grieving the death of a loved one by suicide.  Contact: Tiffany Jennings Walsh, Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officer on 0857407856 or Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) on 0719663000. This service is funded by the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention. 

PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP

Parent/toddler groups can be a great way of meeting other people with children the same age as yours in your area.  It is open to childminders, grandparents and other guardians. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10am–12.30pm in Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) 0719663000.  Cost: Donation. A chance to meet and enjoy being with parents/carers where children can play together in a child friendly environment. ADMINISTRATION SERVICES

Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) offer a wide range of Office and Administration Services at affordable rates.  Services include typing, laminating, binding, scanning, faxing, photocopying A4 & A3. We offer internet access / Wi-Fi in our drop-in room and use of a PC.  If you require a large amount of photocopying/office services, please call in advance to book on 0719663000.

SafeTALK

SafeTALK ‘suicide alertness for everyone’ is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources.  These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Participants learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide in only a few house.  Following a SafeTALK workshop you will be more than willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide. Thursday May 16th in Boyle Family Resource Centre from 7pm-10pm.  Cost: FREE. Booking essential.

INTERNATIONAL TOUR OPERATORS VISIT BOYLE

Una Bhan were absolutely delighted to welcome Tour Operators from all over Europe, Canada & America to Boyle as part of their Familiarisation Tour of the region organised by Failte Ireland. These opportunities to promote the region to international markets are highlighting how the Irelands Hidden Heartlands initiative is really going to invigorate Tourism in the midlands of Ireland.

BOYLE COURTHOUSE PROJECT TO GET €148K

There has been widespread welcome for the announcement of €148,225 funding for projects in Boyle Courthouse. Senator Frank Feighan has warmly welcomed the LEADER funding allocation to restore Boyle Courthouse to house Boyle Model Railway and for community activities.

CLASS OF 1979 REUNION

€33K FUNDING FOR BOYLE BUILDINGS

A number of buildings in and around Boyle have been approved for funding under the Historic Structures Fund and the Built Heritage Investment Scheme. The buildings include:

The Harrington Studio in the grounds of King House is to receive €15,000, Kingston Hall stable building, Rockingham is to receive €4,000, St Patrick’s Church Crossna is to receive €4,500, Workmans Cottage, Erronagh, Knockvicar, Boyle is to receive €4,000, The Gatehouse, Croghan, Boyle is to receive €3,000, Stable Yard Wall, Moylurg House, Cloger, Boyle is to receive €2,500. The funding was announced by Minister for Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD and covers 478 heritage projects across every county in the country who will benefit from a combined €4.3m.

SURVEY OF ENERGY USE IN BOYLE

Boyle households will be asked to help with a survey of energy use in Boyle. The results will be presented to Boyle next month. The intention is that anyone in Boyle interested in energy or climate will get together to follow up on energy ideas for Boyle. Good Energies Alliance is a voluntary community group based in Leitrim active in community energy issues and is seeking your help with this survey in Boyle. BOYLE NATIVE IS A WORLD CHAMPION

A Boyle native has recently been crowned a World Champion. John McDermott, who now lives in Sligo and is originally from Abbeytown in Boyle, won gold in the 400m 75 age group World Master Athletic Championship in Torun, Poland recently. John put in an impressive time of 1:07:28.
