A Boyle Community Notes Week Beginning 29th April (Week 17)

ATTENTION FARMING COMMUNITY 
Úna Bhán Tourism are delighted to be offering free computer training courses again, starting in March. This unique opportunity to develop digital skills and learn basic functions is for beginners or those eager to improve in a fun and easy way. The course includes how to set up an email account, send and receive emails / how to search the internet in a safe and secure way / Complete vehicle taxation online instead of paper form & how to set up and use online banking. More importantly for the farming community the training will teach how to register your farm on Agfood.ie, which allows you to Record the Birth of a Calf; Complete and Print Farm-to-Farm Movements & Print your Herd Profile for your Farm Accountant. Courses are limited to 10 people at a time and will be held in Boyle Library. BOYLE COURTYARD MARKET
The all-weather Courtyard Market takes place every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, including organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, gluten free/ sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear. BOYLE ARTS FESTIVAL
The headline artists will soon be announced for Boyle Arts Fair 2019. This year's Festival will be its 30th year and will run from July 18th to 27th. More details to come soon.

SAFETALK
SafeTALK ‘suicide alertness for everyone’ is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources.  These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities.  Participants learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide in only a few house.  Following a SafeTALK workshop you will be more than willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide. FAMILY SUPPORT DROP IN CLINIC
A drop in confidential space for parents and families to call in and receive support and a listening ear about issues and concerns about you and/or your children. CLOTHING BANK FOR YOUR SPRING CLEAR OUT
There is a clothing bank outside Boyle Family Resource Centre which accepts old clothes and bed linen, handbags, and shoes that are sent for recycling. Your support and donations are very much appreciated as this helps raise funds towards the Centres programmes and community work. NO DUVETS AND PILLOWS AS THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY THE RECYCLING COMPANY. Thank you.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY
Counselling & Psychotherapy is for anybody.  Sometimes life can be difficult for us, it can be unmanageable and challenging. Counselling can be a great support or resource at times of crisis or difficulty in our lives.  It involves meeting with a trained Professional Therapist in a safe confidential setting allowing you to talk about and explore life’s challenges in a non-judgemental space.  Appointments are available Monday to Friday, day and evening. Therapeutic Support for Families, Adolescents, Couples and Individuals. The cost is on a sliding scale and is negotiable. ROSCOMMON SUICIDE BEREAVEMENT LIAISON SERVICE
Roscommon Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service is a free & confidential service that provides assistance & support to families & individuals grieving the death of a loved one by suicide.  Contact: Tiffany Jennings Walsh, Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officer on 085 740 7856 or Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) on 071 966 3000. This service is funded by the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention. 
   
PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
Parent/toddler groups can be a great way of meeting other people with children the same age as yours in your area.  It is open to childminders, grandparents and other guardians. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10am–12.30pm in Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) 071 966 3000.  Cost: Donation. A chance to meet and enjoy being with parents/carers where children can play together in a child friendly environment. Bazz Art Tuesday May 14th, 10am-11am sharp, cost included in Parent & Toddler Group.

ADMINISTRATION SERVICES
Boyle Family Resource Centre (FRC) offer a wide range of Office and Administration Services at affordable rates.  Services include typing, laminating, binding, scanning, faxing, photocopying A4 & A3.  We offer internet access / Wi-Fi in our drop-in room and use of a PC.  If you require a large amount of photocopying/office services, please call in advance to book on 071 966 3000.

EASTER PIKE ANGLING 2019
The overall winner in first place with a cheque for €1,500, The Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Trophy and The Winners Jacket is Pat Healy, with a fish weighing 19lb 4oz.

WORK TO COMMENCE ON A NUMBER OF BOYLE PROJECTS
Roscommon County Council has confirmed that demolition work is scheduled to commence in the next week or two on the former Royal Hotel building in Boyle and will take a number of weeks to complete.
Also confirmed is that the tender documents for the consultancy work for the redevelopment of the Royal Hotel building and the area to the rear of the hotel are now advertised with a closing date of 17th May 2019.
The agreed route of the cycle way from Boyle to Lough Key will take in the Marina area before heading back into Boyle along the N61.

YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST AWARDS
Brilliant news for Dillon Johnson and Nathaniel Pries who are through to the National Finals of the Young Environmentalist Awards in Dublin in May with their project on “Waste Recycling”. Super performance guys. Well done.

HEALTHY ESTATE PROJECT - BOYLE
A survey researching the needs of the community will be carried out in the area of Tobhair Phadraig, Tuath Apartments, Station Road, Cnoc An Raille and Termon Road. This survey aims to build a picture of how the local community perceives life living in the area, social interaction, safety, health and wellbeing and a sense of community. This research will support an action plan to put in place supports for the community by the organisations involved. 
The survey will be carried out by staff of Roscommon LEADER Partnership Company and it will commence on Monday April 29th 2019. The research is anonymous and voluntary participation. If you would like more information contact Teresa O’Brien on 086 029 1215.

TIDY TOWNS
The next clean up for the tidy towns will be Tuesday 30th April targeting the Roscommon approach road.  Meeting at Gannon’s Corner at 7pm.
Clean ups are for one hour only and all help is appreciated. Gloves bags etc provided

THE BIG HELLO FAMILY EVENT
The Courtyard Market on the grounds of King House in Boyle will host the Big Hello Family Event on Saturday the 4th of May from 10am – 2pm. It also marks the 14th Anniversary of the Courtyard Market. This will be a fun-filled family event with a variety of workshops on the day including: Teddy Bears Picnic - ideal for up to 10 years, make sure you bring your favourite teddy along! Treasure Hunt and Crafts, Face-painting, Hair Braiding, Wishing Tree
Yoga workshop for all ages. As well as all of our usual stallholders featuring demos and tasters, there will be a health fair with local businesses showcasing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. There will be live music on the day and plenty of fun for the whole family!

KNOCKVICAR ORGANIC GARDEN
There is a free guided tour of the gardens on Saturdays and bank holidays at 3pm. The last Saturday of each month there is a bring and bake using the wood fired oven from 11am-2pm.

BOYLE MUSICAL SOCIETY – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Following on from the success of ‘The Addams Family’ last year, the Committee and Production team of Boyle Musical Society are currently considering a number of shows for this year’s production. 
2019 will see the Society present its 36th annual musical and plans are being put in place to make it something very special indeed.
It is hoped that all will be revealed at the Boyle Musical Society Annual General Meeting, which will take place on Thursday, May 16th in Dodd’s Crescent Bar at 8pm. 
All past and present members are invited to attend along with anybody interested in joining Boyle Musical Society.
